Choosing the Right Barcode Scanner

The right scanner should read the codes you use and communicate reliably with your register or EPOS software.

Check the Barcode Types

A 1D scanner reads supported linear barcodes. Choose a model explicitly supporting 2D codes if you need QR codes or other matrix formats, and check whether screen scanning is supported.

Handheld, Handsfree or Wireless?

Consider how products reach the counter. Compare handheld operation, desktop presentation scanning and wireless movement. Check the stand, charging arrangements and manufacturer’s stated range where relevant.

Confirm the Interface and Setup

Verify the exact scanner, cable and software combination. USB and serial versions can require different configuration, and a conventional cash register may need a model-specific scanning setup.

Complete Scanner or Replacement Cable?

Read the contents list carefully. A scanner cable or stand is not a complete scanner. Confirm that any required cable, receiver or cradle is included.
